Our trip to the Sanderling in Duck-OBX this summer was equally a fun and relaxing get away. A boutique resort just North of the Town of Duck, the Sanderling is a welcoming destination that has all the amenities you could ask for.
The resort incudes two restaurants, a beach bar, spa, indoor pool, two outdoor pools – adult and family, and a private beach area with chair and umbrella set-up service. Other amenities include a gym, two fire pit areas for roasting s’mores, and a variety of activities including surfing lessons and star gazing. While we didn’t take advantage of the calendar activities, we enjoyed our time at the beach and pool. In the evenings, we enjoyed a cocktail at the Life Saving Station bar before dinner or listening to the band on the patio.
Away from the Sanderling, we did take an evening to visit the shops in the Town of Duck, and checked out some of the restaurants in the area. Two of my favorites were The Paper Canoe and the Village Table and Tavern. If you time it right, both of these places are ideal to watch the sunset while enjoying your dinner. Note: In peak season, reservations are crucial.
I also enjoyed walks in the morning – taking in the scenery and exploring a bit.
On our last morning, we got up to watch the sunrise. To me, watching the sunrise is always a reflective moment – a reminder of how vast the world really is.
We also visited some of the landmarks on the Outer Banks, including the Currituck Beach Lighthouse and the Wright Brothers National Memorial.
Overall, it was a really fun and relaxing trip!
